Let me introduce you to the EV that you’ve never heard of. The EV I’m talking about is the Volkswagen ID.4 which is cool enough for a single person or a family looking for a spacious Cabin and large trunk space. One of the things that Volkswagen is really good at doing with this new model is they didn’t make it look like an EV.
On paper the Volkswagen ID.4 checks all the boxes EV with a great range, four doors five seats, and as stated before a large spacious cabin with a large trunk, and once you factor in all the rebates it is very affordable when comparing it to the other EVs in the segment. But that’s what Volkswagen also has the problem and really they’re pretty much well-known in the Volkswagen world is that they don’t advertise a great vehicle. The Volkswagen ID.4 hardly gets any type of airplay on the radio or TV, especially with these times of gas prices going through the roof you really don’t see a lot of advertising on this great Volkswagen EV vehicle. I am hoping this article brings up to light some of the shortcomings of the manufacturer because I think right now we need to hold the manufacturers to a higher standard in mass-producing these types of cars vehicles. Tesla has shown that this structure of ordering vehicles with no-haggle pricing is the future and overall will be better for everybody that is in the industry.
I had the privilege to extensively drive the Volkswagen ID.4 for about six months and never had to worry about the range even though I did have a little bit of range anxiety at the beginning that quickly went away within the first week. Below is the chart of the Approximate Range Per Charge.
ID.4 Pro | ID.4 AWD Pro | ID.4 Pro S | ID.4 AWD Pro S | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Level 2 Home Charging | 25-37 miles | 23-34 miles | 23-35 miles | 21-32 miles |
Level 3 public DC Fast Charging (in about 10 minutes) | 70 miles | 64 miles | 66 miles | 60 miles |
The handling & torque is excellent it’s all there as soon as you step on it. Below are some of the pros and cons that I’ve had with the vehicle
The 2022 Volkswagen ID. 4’s base Pro trim starts at $40,760, which is among the highest starting prices in the electric SUV class. The top-of-the-line Pro S trim starts at $45,260. Both trims come with the same single-motor, rear-wheel-drive setup.
Two Options:
45,000+ chargers nationwide. Public charging is a great option when you’re on the go, and with an ever-growing network of more than 45,000 chargers nationwide.
As you can see not too many cons. Overall, Volkswagen has knocked it out of the park for the first time around with a longer-range EV vehicle. I want to be as transparent as possible I no longer work for Volkswagen. In my opinion, this is more for Volkswagen to hopefully take it from a current Volkswagen owner and ex-salesperson that the Volkswagen ID.4 is a great EV that hopefully will not disappear as so many great first great Volkswagens have done in the past.
